Why Test and Tag?
Testing and Tagging is the process of conducting an inspection and testing to check all electrical equipment against the Australian Standard AZ/NZS 3760:2022
Safety in the workplace for all employees is paramount.
Under Australian Occupational Health and Safety legislation, businesses are bound by a duty of care to maintain the safety of their workplace. Electronic equipment needs to be inspected and tested to ensure it is compliant with the Australian Standard and then a colour coded tag affixed to certify that it is electrically safe. Relevant documentation needs to be held at your business to demonstrate you are maintaining a safe workplace and by engaging testing and tagging services to ensure electrical safety is up to date on a regular basis.

Onsite Test & Tag
A visual external inspection of the electrical equipment is conducted to check for damage, wear, or defects such as discolouration, evidence of exposure to heat, moisture or chemicals, and loose electrical connections. If the electrical equipment is logged as failing the visual inspection test, then it is tagged out and earmarked for replacement.
Once electrical equipment passes the visual inspection, the technician will perform electrical safety tests using a Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) machine. The following tests may be performed to verify and measure the safety of the electrical equipment.
After electrical equipment has been tested and verified that it is safe, the technician will apply a colour coded tag to indicate that at the time of testing, the items were electrically safe. These tags will carry the following information:
- Company name
- Licence number of the technician performing the testing
- Test date and the next test date
All electrical equipment is returned to relevant locations within your workplace upon conclusion of the testing and tagging process.
As all electrical equipment is tested and tagged a register is populated of all equipment tested. The test and tag technician compiles a report demonstrating the condition of all electrical equipment involved in the testing and tagging process. This report is then issued to the business along with a Certificate of compliance summarising the testing results and signifying electrical safety compliance.
